In this podcast, we discuss how Michael’s book The Mold Medic acts as a guideline for individuals dealing with mold, and how proper remediation should look. We touch on the state of the current industry and explain that there are three key pillars to mold remediation:
1. Identify the source of water/moisture that allowed for mold to grow in the first place
2. Remove the source of the problem
3. Clean up the contamination created by the source
Many companies only deal with two out of the three problems, which leaves people sick after remediation. For better success, every company should be well-versed in dealing with remediation properly and placing the health of the affected individuals first and foremost.
The best practice to deal with mold is to remove it completely. If an individual isn’t sure whether or not they have mold, they need to test their home. A mold inspector will know how to best assess a home to really identify if there are problems. When the average person takes 20,000 breaths a day, clean air quality hits the top of the list for important aspects we should focus on for health. We touch on a few mold facts and how many individuals may be living with mold and not even know about it.
We also talk about the illnesses associated with mold exposure. Toxic black mold isn’t the only one to be worried about. You have three types of mold: allergenic, pathogenic, and toxigenic. Many of these can produce mycotoxins that affect health and wellbeing, just like toxic molds can. Some symptoms include brain fog, fatigue, respiratory problem, etc. We go into more detail about these toxins and the research surrounding them as well as the process of detoxifying the body once it’s exposed to molds.
We need to make smarter decisions when it comes to our homes. During the podcast, we go through various steps to do so when it comes to ensuring air quality.
The biggest takeaway though is that everything is situational when it comes to mold. No two homes and experiences will be the same so we need to build awareness on mold exposure and all that it details.
